Reliance intraday margin (MIS)

For an intraday trade in a stock, the exchange margin is VaR plus extreme loss margin (ELM), with a floor of 20% of the trade value. NSE Clearing publishes the VaR percentage for each scrip several times a day; for large, liquid stocks such as Reliance it is often below 20%, so the floor sets the margin.

≈ approximate Per basket, at the exchange’s reference prices, on the nearest expiry all legs share. Option value is the value of sold options less the credit for bought ones. The 5% buffer rounds the estimate up.

That is ₹92,225 less than buy 100 shares, delivery (cnc).

Worked out from the margin files NSE, BSE and MCX publish each day (SPAN, VaR and exposure rates), then rounded up by 5% to stay on the safe side. Your broker can ask for more: ad hoc or delivery margins, its own intraday leverage, or a higher figure during peak-margin checks. Use it to plan a trade, and check the order window before you place it.

How this margin works

An intraday position must be squared off the same day, so only that margin is blocked. A delivery (CNC) buy needs the full value of the shares, because you are paying for them. A delivery sell needs no margin when you already hold the shares.

The table prices 100 shares at the reference price in the exchange file. The calculator lets you change the quantity and price, and add more stocks or F&O legs. Brokers may ask for more than the exchange figure, for example during volatile sessions, and some offer their own intraday leverage.

The figures follow the calculator’s method: SPAN and exposure from the clearing corporation’s files, option value and premium, and a 5% buffer.

Reliance intraday questions

What is the intraday margin for Reliance shares?

VaR plus ELM from the NSE Clearing file, at least 20% of the trade value. The table shows the figure for 100 shares as of the file date above it; enter your own quantity and price in the calculator.

Why does delivery need the full amount?

A delivery buy means you take the shares and pay for them, so the whole value is blocked. Intraday positions are closed the same day, so only the exchange margin is needed.
