Cirrus is back. Trading resumed on 5 October with static IP on every account. See what's new

Static IP for algo trading, built into every account

From 1 April 2026, every retail API order in India has to come from a static IP that your broker has whitelisted. Cirrus gives each of your broker accounts its own dedicated IP. You copy it, whitelist it once, and trade. Routing through it adds 5–30 ms.

What SEBI requires

SEBI’s retail algo framework lets you trade through broker APIs, as long as every order can be traced to you. The static IP is how brokers do that.

Orders must come from a static IP
Retail orders placed through a broker’s API have to originate from a fixed IP address that you have whitelisted with that broker. Orders from any other address are rejected.
Fully mandatory from 1 April 2026
The rule was phased in through 2025 and applies to every retail API trader from 1 April 2026.
Up to 10 orders a second needs no algo registration
Below 10 orders per second per exchange, you do not have to register your strategy as an algo. Above it, the strategy must be registered with the exchange through your broker.
The IP can change at most once a week
You cannot swap the whitelisted address day to day. A stable, dedicated IP saves you from getting locked out mid-week.

How Cirrus does it

A dedicated IP per broker account, assigned in the app. No server to rent, nothing to install.

  1. Connect your broker account

Add the account in Cirrus with your broker’s own login or API keys.

  2. Turn on static IP for that account

Cirrus assigns a dedicated IP to that one account. It is not shared with any other account.

  3. Copy the IP and whitelist it at your broker

The IP is shown next to the account in Cirrus. Paste it into your broker’s API or developer settings.

  4. Trade as usual

Every order for that account now leaves through its whitelisted IP, including multi-account orders and signals.

Where your orders go

Two Zerodha accounts and an Upstox account for the family HUF: three accounts, three IPs, and each broker only ever sees the address it whitelisted.

How each account reaches its broker through its own static IPThree accounts: yours and your spouse’s on Zerodha, an HUF on Motilal Oswal. Each has its own dedicated static IP: two IPv6 addresses for the Zerodha accounts and one IPv4 address for Motilal Oswal. IPv6 or IPv4, depending on your broker

An IP address comes in two formats. IPv6 is the newer one, and there are more than enough to go round. IPv4 is the older format, and every address is scarce and rented.

Cirrus gives Zerodha, Upstox, 5paisa, Groww, Dhan, Fyers and Alice Blue accounts an IPv6 static IP, included at ₹0. Accounts at other brokers get a dedicated IPv4 address, which is rented and adds ₹350 a month per account. Each broker page shows which one applies.

A dedicated static IP for less than a shared one

Global proxy services charge around $19 a month for an IP pair you share with other customers, with a cap on requests. Cirrus gives each broker account its own IP, adds 5–30 ms, and includes the trading platform that uses it.

Your own server, or Cirrus

Plenty of traders run a VPS with a static IP, and it works. Here is what each route takes.

Setup

Your own VPSRent a cloud server, reserve a static IP, deploy and secure your own order code on it.

CirrusTurn on static IP for an account in the app and whitelist the address it shows you.

One IP per account

Your own VPSOne server IP is usually tied to one broker login. Each extra account means another IP or another server.

CirrusEvery broker account gets its own dedicated IP automatically.

Speed

Your own VPSDepends on where your server runs and how far it sits from your broker; shared proxies often add noticeable delay.

CirrusThe static IP hop adds 5–30 ms to each order.

Cost

Your own VPSServer rent plus the IP, billed by your cloud provider, plus your own time.

Cirrus₹0 on IPv6 brokers, ₹350 a month on IPv4 brokers, on top of the ₹499 account fee.

Maintenance

Your own VPSOS updates, uptime monitoring, broker API changes and token refreshes are on you.

CirrusWe run the servers, keep broker integrations current and route orders for you.

Static IP questions

Does the static IP slow my orders down?

Barely. Routing an order through your Cirrus static IP adds 5–30 ms, often as little as 5 ms. In our testing, common static IP setups took 300 ms or more at best, and some orders were held up for 2–3 seconds.

Do I need a static IP for algo trading in India?

Yes, if your orders reach the broker through its API. Under SEBI’s retail algo framework, fully mandatory from 1 April 2026, API orders must come from a static IP that you have whitelisted with your broker. Orders placed by hand in the broker’s own app or website are not affected.

What is IP whitelisting?

You tell your broker which IP address your API orders will come from, usually in its API or developer settings. The broker then accepts API orders only from that address.

Does every account need its own static IP?

Each broker account whitelists its own IP. Cirrus gives every connected broker account a dedicated IP, so accounts for you, your spouse or an HUF each have their own address.

What is the difference between IPv4 and IPv6 here?

They are two formats of internet address. IPv6 addresses are plentiful, so where Cirrus routes an account over IPv6 the static IP is included at ₹0. IPv4 addresses are scarce and rented one by one, so an IPv4 static IP costs ₹350 a month extra. Each broker page shows which one applies.

Do I need algo registration if I use Cirrus?

Not below 10 orders per second per exchange. SEBI’s framework requires a strategy to be registered with the exchange only above that rate. Cirrus is an NSE and BSE empanelled algo vendor.

Can I change my static IP?

Exchange rules allow the whitelisted IP to change at most once a week, so pick one and keep it. The IP Cirrus assigns is dedicated to that one account, so there is no reason to change it while you trade.

What happens to the IP if I cancel?

When the subscription for that broker account ends, its static IP is released. Remove it from your broker’s whitelist. If you return, you get a new IP to whitelist.

Do Pocketful accounts need a static IP?

Not for now. Pocketful accounts use Cirrus free through our partnership and do not need a static IP at the moment.

Connect a broker, turn on static IP, and paste the address into your broker’s API settings. Pocketful users need no static IP and pay nothing.
